A product of Yuzo Koshiro’s studio, Ancient, Protect Me Knight is a real Xbox Live Indie Games gem. Protect Me Knight has all the charm of an 8-bit style game, including blowing into the cartridge, purposefully misspelled words, and retro graphics and music. Similar to Gears of War 2’s Horde mode, the tower defense genre, or any other game that tasks you with fending off waves of enemies, Protect Me Knight tasks you with defending the princess in the middle of the screen from uncountable foes. You and up to three friends can select from four RPG style classes, such as fighter and mage, construct barricades and catapults and utilize unique abilities to crush the opposition. Heart Points are dished out for doing well, and these can be used to activate special moves, or upgrade your stats and abilities, which gives the game a real sense of progression. Carefully powering up your character is paramount to success, as the game becomes quite difficult down the line. Up to four players can play on the same screen (Xbox Live is not supported), and if you can get some friends over, Protect Me Knight is a ton of fun. Even solo, the game is a real treat, and highly recommended. At only $3, you can’t go wrong. Because the game is listed with Japanese text, it cannot be searched using the alphabet. To find Protect Me Knight in the Indie Games store, go to the Action & Adventure genre, then to Top Rated and Protect Me Knight will be listed as まもって騎士 within the top 5 or so games.
