I purchase this for a six year old nephew, and the whole family joined in to break in this game. It was easy to understand, but challenging. My nephew really enjoyed the game, but it was hard for the adults not to be competitive when playing. The game is fun, and it makes you want to out-think the opponents.
From what I hear, my brother’s family has been playing the game almost daily since my nephew received it. What better reception could there be for a game?
This game is money well spent. I believe that it will help my nephew develop logical thinking skills and strategy development. The fact that he is smiling all the while, is icing on the cake.
Qwirkle has excellent game play and I have enjoyed playing it with friends many times (using their copies). It’s a bit like Scrabble, but without the letters. However, this current production run (from China) is extremely poor and I would highly recommend waiting to purchase this game until production values have improved. The blocks sometimes have chips / gouges in them. The paint used is extremely thin and lacks glossiness. You can see the black paint under the stamped shapes. The shapes are not always centered on the block and some of the shapes are incompletely stamped (i.e. part of a star’s point may be missing). I have seen versions of Qwirkle from its first production run and these are of much higher quality. Yet you pay the same price. So despite its excellent game play, I would recommend not purchasing this game until production values are vastly improved.
Oh Canada…they sure do love their hockey. How much you ask? During the amazing Canada-USA gold medal final ice hockey match during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, passengers refused to board an Air Canada plane because the game had not ended yet.
I love Ticket to Ride, and think it's a great game, but I have not played Qwirkle.
Ticket to Ride is easy to teach, and will help kids with their geography of the US (something that gets little attention in school anymore). It does require holding many cards in your hand at a time, so little hands might have a tough time with that. (They do make neat card-holders that will make all card-games easier for small handed people, though.)
They also make expansions for Ticket to Ride, so you can buy new maps (Europe, Germany, Switzerland, etc), and expand the routes you build (1912 edition of the US version). Adding these is cheaper than buying a new game, but changes it up so that it's not the same game over and over.
My suggestion is to check out Board Game Geek http://www.boardgamegeek.com. They have awesome reviews, ratings, and information on just about every game that ever existed (seriously).
I love cabooses. I love all sizes, shapes, and colors of cabooses. So, was thinking we should have a thread dedicated to them! I’ll start this…
Let's play a game. With the Yankees eyeing 60 pitches for Joba today…how long will it take for him to reach that limit?
Good job.
With so many different cuts, colors, and shapes, how do you choose the type of engagement ring that you think your girlfriend would love? It can certainly be hard, but you should know your girlfriend well enough by now to have at least a remote idea of what sort of jewelry they like.
Man The game made some good songs, good lyrics unlike most now

One of the first polymers ever created, cellulose nitrate is made by reacting cotton fibers with nitric acid. Cellulloid was substituted for natural toroise shell picks in the early 1900s and is still one of the most popular pick materials available today. They are available in a wide variety of thicknesses, shapes, and colors, and provide a natural feel and warm, fat tone.
